Works with setlists and band events

A working musician's calendar is unusually structured. Recurring weekly lessons (with the same student, same venue, same time). One-off gigs (each with a load-in, soundcheck, set times, load-out). Rehearsals for one band that overlap with rehearsals for another. Exam dates and competitions. Tour blocks. Family events that take priority. Crescender's calendar carries the typed concepts a generic calendar can't represent.

Event types that mean something

Every event in Crescender has a type: lesson, rehearsal, gig, recording session, exam, eisteddfod, festival, or general. The type determines what fields the event surfaces, a gig has venue, fee, set times, attached setlist, load-in details; a lesson has student, repertoire, location, fee; a rehearsal has band, repertoire focus, room. You're not forcing every event into a generic 'title + time + place' shape.

Custom types are available for organisations with their own taxonomy (school music programs often have their own event categories, assembly performance, parent-teacher night recital, ensemble retreat).

Recurrence done properly

Weekly lessons are a foundational case for music teachers, and a notoriously fiddly thing to model. Crescender handles weekly, fortnightly, monthly-by-day, term-only (excludes school holidays), and custom-recurrence patterns. Exceptions to the recurrence (cancellation, makeup lesson, time shift for one occurrence) are first-class, you don't break the whole series to move one lesson.

School-term recurrences honour Australian state school calendars by default (NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA, TAS, ACT, NT) with their specific term dates and public holidays. Customisable per-organisation for schools running their own term calendar.

Sharing and visibility

Events can be private to you, shared with specific people, shared with a band, or made public. A gig is typically shared with the band and made publicly visible on your performance calendar; a lesson is private between you and the student/family.

Coparents in a family share the family calendar by default. Teachers share lesson events with the student and family. Bands share gig and rehearsal events across all members. Everyone sees the events that are relevant to them, and the visibility rules are explicit.

Export and integration

Every visible event exports to standard iCal, your Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook can subscribe to your Crescender events and see them alongside everything else in your life. The subscription updates live as events change in Crescender.

Two-way sync with Google Calendar is on the roadmap; for now the iCal subscription is one-way (Crescender → other calendar) which handles the most common use case (don't make me check two places to find my next event).
