Why we built another practice app
Every other “kids’ music” app I tried with my own children did at least one of these things: showed ads between screens, sent push notifications designed to manufacture guilt, treated my eight-year-old as a separate marketing channel, or collected enough data on her practice habits to make me feel uncomfortable about what was happening with it.
Most of them also made it weirdly hard to do the one thing the app is supposed to do: let a kid open it, see today’s practice goal, tap a button to start a timer, and tap again to stop.
So we built My Crescender Family the way we wanted to use it. One parent (or two, coparents share a family) creates the account. Each child gets added by name, instrument, and a daily practice goal. The kid uses a parent-issued six-digit code to unlock kid mode on a device, they never sign in themselves and they never have an email address in our system. The kid surface shows one big practice button. That’s the entire interaction loop.
Everything syncs across the family’s devices, works offline first, and is stored in Australia. My Crescender Family has no ads, and we do not sell or rent family data. We don’t use streak-shaming notifications. And the privacy notice is short enough that a parent can actually read it, it’s here.
Everything a family needs. Nothing it doesn’t.
Eight features. No bloat. Every one of them is in the app today.
How it works
From download to first practice session in under two minutes.
A parent creates the family
One adult signs up with email + password, picks an avatar colour, and creates the family. Coparent? Send them an invite from Settings, they get the same view and the same edit rights.
Add each kid by name + instrument
Inside the parent-only surface, add a child with first name, date of birth, instrument(s), and a daily practice goal in minutes. You can edit or retire a child at any time, practice history is preserved.
Hand the kid the device with kid mode unlocked
Generate a 6-digit code from your parent surface. The kid enters it on their device (or the family iPad) to unlock kid mode. Inside kid mode they see today's goal, the timer, and their practice history. That's it.
Tap to start, tap to finish
The kid taps the big button to start a session. The timer counts up silently. They tap again when they're done. Everything syncs to your phone in the next few seconds.
You see what they did, when
Open the parent app any time to see today's progress, the week's totals, and per-kid history. Notifications (if you've opted in) ping you when a kid finishes a session.
Made for kids. Engineered for parents.
The trust posture isn’t a marketing page. It’s how the product is built.

Built around child safety
Children never have accounts in our system. The app is COPPA-aligned, GDPR-K aligned, and submitted as Designed for Families on Google Play. We don't run third-party analytics SDKs that profile kids.
Read the child-safety stanceAustralian data residency
Every byte of family data stays in Australia, hosted on globally recognised public cloud infrastructure. Your child's practice routine doesn't travel offshore. Sentry diagnostic data is the only thing that may transit globally, and it carries no personally-identifying information.
Where your data livesNo ads in Family
My Crescender Family does not show ads and does not include advertising SDKs. We do not sell or rent family data. Other Crescender products may use advertising for non-paying users, but child data is not used for ad targeting.
