What ages is My Crescender Family designed for?

Accepted Answer

The kid surface is calibrated for ages 6 through 12. Younger kids might need a parent to hand them the unlocked device; older kids can manage the whole flow themselves. The parent surface has no age constraint. If you have multiple kids spanning the range, the app handles that, each child gets their own profile, goal, and history.

How is this different from just using a stopwatch?

A stopwatch doesn't remember what your kid practiced yesterday, doesn't sync to your phone when they're at your coparent's house, doesn't show your kid their week of progress, and doesn't quietly handle two adults having the same view. We started from the stopwatch idea and built only the things a family actually needs around it. Nothing more.

Do my kids need their own email addresses or accounts?

Accepted Answer

No. Kids never sign in to anything. They unlock kid mode on a device using a 6-digit code that you, as the parent, generate. The kid surface stays unlocked on that device until you revoke it (or until a configurable timeout). The kid's record exists in our database, but the only way to authenticate as them is via the parent-issued code.

What if there are two parents in different households?

Both parents create accounts and one invites the other from Settings. Both adults then see the same family, same children, same goals, same calendar, same practice history. Both can add events, both can adjust goals, both get push notifications when a kid finishes practice (if opted in). Practice logged on one parent's phone shows up on the other's within seconds.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Every action writes to a local database (SQLite, via WatermelonDB) before it touches the network. The kid can start a practice session in the back of a car with no signal; the moment the device gets back online, everything syncs. The same applies to event creation, kid management, and goal adjustments.

What data do you collect about my child?

Accepted Answer

First name, date of birth, instrument(s), the optional avatar colour or image, the practice sessions themselves (start, end, instrument, optional notes), and the daily goal. We don't collect email addresses, phone numbers, location, contacts, photos (beyond the optional avatar), or biometric data for kids. Where is the data stored?

All data stays in Australia, hosted on globally recognised public cloud infrastructure. The only thing that may transit overseas is the Sentry diagnostic feed, and that carries no personally-identifying information. Only stack traces and performance numbers.

Question 8

Are there ads?

Accepted Answer

No. My Crescender Family has zero advertising and no advertising SDKs are linked in the app. Other Crescender products may include advertising for non-paying users, but Family does not and child data is not used for ad targeting.

Question 9

How do I delete the whole family account?

Accepted Answer

Settings → Delete account. The flow takes a double confirmation, then cascades a soft-delete across every table. You have a 30-day grace period during which you can email hello@crescender.com.au to restore. After 30 days the data is permanently removed.

What does it cost?

During the launch period My Crescender Family is free for early-access families. We'll publish pricing closer to broad availability. If you want to lock in early-access pricing, sign up as soon as the app is in the stores.

Will my kid see other people's practice data?

Accepted Answer

No. There are no leaderboards, no comparisons, no social feed, and no chat. The kid sees only their own goal, their own timer, and their own history. We made this choice deliberately, we don't think children's practice should be benchmarked against other children's.

Question 12

What if my kid has multiple instruments?

Accepted Answer

Add as many instruments per kid as you want. When the kid starts a session they pick which instrument they're practicing. The daily goal is per-kid (not per-instrument), but the history is broken down by instrument so you can see whether the violin is getting attention this week.
