Stage monitors vs. in-ear monitors: Which is right for your live band?

Clean stage sound is the key to a great live performance. Compare traditional wedges with in-ear monitor setups for gigging musicians.

Short answer

Wedges are simpler to set up and let you hear the room naturally. In-ear monitors (IEMs) protect your hearing, give each band member a custom mix, and eliminate feedback, but require a digital mixer and are expensive to implement. Most growing bands benefit from transitioning to IEMs as they gig regularly.
